Historical Background:
Established in 1937 by the County Board of Supervisors, the Law Department operates under a statutory mandate to "have charge of and conduct all of the civil law business of the County of Westchester and its departments." The County Attorney, appointed by the County Executive with the approval of the County Board of Legislators, plays a crucial role in steering the department, which is one of the largest law offices in Westchester County.
