pavilionopeningJune 21, 2017 - Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today joined with members of the DeMatteo family to unveil the result of a just-completed capital project that refurbished the bathhouse and DeMatteo Terrace at Willson’s Woods Park in Mount Vernon. Willson’s Waves, the aquatic center at Willson’s Woods Park, opens for the season on Friday, June 23.

“I am happy to be able to welcome county residents to the refurbished bathhouse, including the all-new DeMatteo Terrace, a covered picnic pavilion on the upper floor,” Astorino said. “With its high-beamed ceiling, open-air feeling and great view overlooking the grounds of the beautiful pool complex, the newly renovated pavilion is the perfect place for family get-togethers, birthday parties and company picnics.”

Astorino praised the efforts of Westchester County Legislator Lyndon Williams, whose district includes Willson’s Woods Park, for his role in securing the capital funding needed for the refurbishment.

DeMatteo Terrace is named in memory of Charles J. “Chuck” DeMatteo, an engineer with the county’s Department of Public Works. DeMatteo oversaw the construction of the wave pool at Willson’s Woods, along with numerous other Parks projects during his career with Westchester County. He died in May 2006.

Other improvements to the 1928 English Tudor Revival-style bathhouse include new roofing, replacement of structural timbers, an all-new family bathroom, locker room and restroom improvements, new flooring, windows and doors, a new fire alarm system and fresh paint inside and out. Pumps and blowers in the wave pool have been replaced as well.

The terrace pavilion offers tables and a barbecue grill, and can accommodate groups of up to 100 people. It is available to Westchester County residents only, with discounts for County Park Pass holders, and is available for rental seven days a week. For an additional fee, permit holders and their guests can use the pool facility, which includes a wave pool, spray deck, kiddy pool and water slides. Group user of the pavilion may choose to provide their own food or purchase from the pool concessionaire. Free Wi-Fi is available on the pool deck.

Rates for the pavilion are as follows: on weekdays, fees are $350 without a Park Pass, $300 with the Park Pass; on weekends, fees are $500 without a Park Pass, $450 with a Park Pass. A security deposit is required and rules and regulations for group picnics apply. Pool entry for guests is $10 per person.
