indianpointpanelMarch 3, 2017 - Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino testified Thursday before the New York State Senate Committee on Investigations and Government Operations about the devastating impact the agreement to close Indian Point would have on the county, local municipalities, and the Hendrick Hudson School District. In his remarks, Astorino highlighted the loss of 1,000 jobs, $30 million in local tax revenue, and billions of dollars in economic output.

“The closing of Indian Point will have very serious ramifications for the local community, the county, and the region for generations to come,” Astorino said. “We have to get the next steps right, and that cannot be done by three men in a room. It requires real community involvement.”

Astorino asked for the state to commission an economic report on the economic impact on closing the plant.

The committee hearing was held in Peekskill at the Local 21 Plumbers & Steamfitters Union Hall. Senator Terrence Murphy (R – Yorktown) chairs the committee.
