Aug. 16, 2011 -- The Westchester County Department of Health advises swimmers, boaters, windsurfers, kayakers and other recreational water users that they may resume direct contact with the Hudson River north of Sleepy Hollow. This lifts the Health Department's advisory for the Hudson River in Westchester.

The health department estimates there had been an ongoing sewage discharge of 1.5 million gallons per day of sewage due to a sewer main break reported by Ossining last Thursday. The village of Ossining repaired the sewer main break late afternoon on Friday.

The advisory remained in place for the Hudson River in Westchester north of Sleepy Hollow. Results from beach water quality samples taken Monday by the county health department were available this afternoon (Tuesday) and showed improved water quality north of Sleepy Hollow. The county health department also advised Croton Point Park Beach that it can reopen.
