schoolsuppliesGrandparents who are raising grandchildren are looking ahead to September when they will need to find a way to pay for back-to-school supplies such as new notebooks, pens and backpacks.

For a donation of $20 or more, the Grandparents Coalition of Westchester County’s Department of Senior Programs and Services will help these grandparents buy these basic tools of learning to help their  grandchildren get off to a good start.

There are 4,739 grandparents in Westchester who have sole responsibility for raising their grandchildren. Many of these grandparents receive little or no subsidies and often have left retirement and returned to work to provide for them. Some are holding down two jobs to meet expenses.

At this time of year, some grandparents skimp on their own personal and medical needs just to save money for their grandchildren’s back-to-school supplies and other necessities.

The Grandparents’ Coalition, through the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services, welcomes your tax-deductible gift of $20 or more. Download the contribution form and send with your check made payable to the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services to the attention of Corina De Leon, program administrator of the Grandparents Coalition, at the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services, 9 S. First Ave., 10th floor, Mount Vernon, N.Y. 10550-3414. For more information, call (914) 813-6393.

If you want your donation to honor your child, grandchild or the memory of someone special to you or to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, include their name and address and they will be notified of your generosity.
