Speakers BureauJan. 31, 2011 -- Would you like a speaker to address your organization on a health-related topic? Or maybe your group’s interest is in legal services, safety, education, advocacy or money management? If so, check out the new Livable Communities Speakers Bureau Directory.

The directory lists more than 135 professionals who are volunteering their time and expertise to present free programs on a variety of topics. The speakers include educators, attorneys, business owners, professors, clergy, government officials, professionals from many fields and the general public.

The directory is a collaboration between the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) and the Westchester Public/Private Partnership for Aging Services. The programs in the directory are geared toward people who are 60 and older, but people of all ages are welcome to use it.

“We’re fortunate to have so many qualified providers in Westchester who are willing to donate their time to tell groups about the benefits and services and other things people must know to successfully navigate their lives,” said DSPS Commissioner Mae Carpenter.

The directory was designed for use by a broad audience but originally created for DSPS’ Livable Communities program, a “neighbors helping neighbors” approach that works to help seniors stay in their homes as they age.

The public should contact the speakers directly to arrange for programs. Many of them are willing to do presentations in the evenings and on weekends in addition to during regular business hours.

The directory will be updated as needed and other interested speakers can apply for inclusion by filling out the online application form. For more information, call (914) 813-6408.
