“Earlier last week, I told you about the time spent at Westchester’s First Responders Memorial, running my fingers across the engraved names of the brave men and women who gave their lives for our country—working on the pile after 9/11, and ultimately succumbing to 9/11-related illnesses. It is because of those men and women that I am calling on federal elected leaders to vote against The House Reconciliation Bill. The Bill cuts Medicaid, SNAP, hospital support, support for seniors, women and children. And, as of late, they are also slashing funding to the World Trade Center Health Program.
“This Program is a critical lifeline for more than 135,000 first responders, survivors and families impacted by the September 11th attacks—many of whom still live with serious, often debilitating health conditions. They are not just statistics—they are our neighbors, our coworkers, and our friends. We owe them more than gratitude—we owe them the care and support they have rightfully earned.
“This Friday, May 30, marks the anniversary of the formal end of rescue and recovery efforts at Ground Zero. As we reflect on the courage and sacrifice shown by so many on that day and every day since, let us also be reminded that our responsibility to care for these heroes is not finished. Westchester County stands united in urging federal elected leaders to act—our 9/11 heroes are counting on it.”
