January 6, 2017- Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino today joined with members of the Hispanic faith-based community to celebrate Three Kings Day, or Little Christmas with prayer, song and gifts for children. Among those in attendance were Pastor Abbelane Rivera, president of the Westchester County Hispanic Clergy Organization.
Widely known in Christendom as the Epiphany, January 6th is the celebration of the visit of the Magi, and the gifts they presented to the Christ child.
After welcoming the guests, Astorino then handed out gifts to the children, donated by the United States Marine Corps, K Mart, and others.
“Three Kings Day is an especially important day in the Hispanic Christian community, celebrated by delivering gifts to children,” said Astorino. “The children gathered here represent a future of hope, much like the baby Jesus in the manger did more than 2000 years ago.”
In addition to the youngsters in attendance, the donated gifts will be distributed to charitable organizations throughout Westchester.
