Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino released the following statement on the appointment of Westchester resident and former U.S. Attorney Michael J. Garcia to serve as Associate Judge of the state Court of Appeals:
"I congratulate my friend Michael Garcia on this prestigious appointment. I have always admired his character and incredible service to our state and country as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Assistant Secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the Department of Homeland Security and law clerk for the Honorable Judith Kaye at the New York State Court of Appeals. Additionally, Michael has had a distinguished career in the private sector as a Partner with Kirkland and Ellis LLP. I know he will make an excellent judge, bringing a level of intellect, integrity and independence to the New York court system. I applaud the governor for choosing an individual as highly qualified as Michael Garcia. New Yorkers will be well served."
