The boil water advisory issued for Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, Elmsford, Hawthorne, Valhalla and Thornwood has been lifted based on results received Wednesday that drinking water in these communities is now safe for consumption.
The Health Department will continue routine monitoring of all water supplies in Westchester County to ensure that drinking water quality remains satisfactory.
The boil water advisory was initiated as a precaution due to high levels of turbidity (sedimentation) in the water in the Catskill Aqueduct, which is under the jurisdiction of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. Sediment impedes the water purification process. The turbidity was most likely due to the recent snow storms and increased precipitation.
