Westchester County Family Court held its 9th annual adoption date Nov. 12 and finalized the adoptions of 42 children in one day.

Judge Kathie Davidson, supervising judge of the Family Court, and her staff  performed this minor miracle in the Family Court in White Plains.

In ceremonies held every 15 minutes, Davidson, assisted by Family Court Judges William Edwards, Janet Malone, Mary Anne Scatteratico-Naber and John Colangelo,  presided over adoptions of children ages 1 to 17 in three court rooms.

It’s all part of Adoption Day, a national day to honor adoptive parents and highlight the need for adoptive families. In Westchester, the day is hosted by the Department of Social Services and the Family Court.

This year, the annual Adoption Day award was presented in memory of Michael D'Ambrosio, who had donated photography services on Adoption Day each year.  The award was presented to a photographer who has donated her services to the Heart Gallery this year.

National Adoption Day is held to draw attention to the hundreds of thousands of children waiting for adoption in the United States. Currently, there are more than 700 children in foster care in Westchester County.
