Highlights the Law Department’s Child Abuse & Neglect Unit for their efforts

April is known as National Child Abuse Prevention Month (NCAPM), a time set aside to recognize the importance of communities working together to help families thrive, and prevent child maltreatment. This April, County Executive George Latimer is recognizing Westchester County’s Family Court Bureau Child Abuse & Neglect Unit for their efforts to raise awareness about child and family well-being, and prevent child abuse and neglect throughout Westchester County.

Latimer said: “Our Child Abuse & Neglect Unit does incredible work, and often times it is in the most difficult of circumstances. They are the ones who are on the front lines when children are found in the most vulnerable state – suffering from physical injury, or being neglected of even the most basic nutritional or medical needs. This April, and every month, we thank and commend the Family Court Bureau for their tireless efforts to protect the families and children that they serve.”

Westchester County Attorney John Nonna said: “Child abuse and neglect casts a dark shadow and is the world’s silent crime. Our Family Court Bureau attorneys handling these very complicated cases confront the saddest and most appalling behaviors towards children. These attorneys are absolutely committed to protecting and safeguarding the most vulnerable members of our society. I am consistently impressed by their efforts and the results they achieve to protect the County’s children and bringing them out of the shadows.”
