Westchester County Executive George Latimer joined the Westchester County Youth Bureau to mark the twenty-second annual observance of Lights On After-school, celebrated on Oct. 28, by releasing a public service announcement.
Latimer said: “One of the first steps that we took in this administration was to restore critical funding to after-school and positive youth development programs. Our support for after-school programming through non-profit and municipal agencies has yet to wane. We encourage local organizations such as the non-profits, youth bureaus, recreation departments, churches, schools and neighborhood centers to keep the lights on by maintaining the much needed after-school initiatives that keep our children safe and off of the streets.”
Westchester County Youth Bureau Executive Director Dr. DaMia Harris-Madden said: “Westchester County affords opportunities for youth to choose from a vast catalogue of age-appropriate, asset building, and supportive activities during the critical hours of 3pm and 6pm. All children and youth deserve opportunities to keep the lights shining in their minds, bodies, and hearts.”
The Westchester County Youth Bureau supports more than 70 programs through funding made available from public and private partnerships.
