Standing in front of the Garden of Remembrance, Westchester County's Holocaust Memorial, County Executive George Latimer delivered remarks during the Westchester Jewish Council's Annual Yom Hashoah Commemoration. During the ceremony Latimer encouraged all Westchester County residents to remember that although we must be separated for the annual event, we can still come together to honor the sacrifices that were made by those who were brutally murdered during the Holocaust.

Latimer said: "We are apart on this day, but we are still together. We are together to remember, and to never forget. We don't need physical togetherness, we just need to remember together in our hearts."

The Garden of Remembrance, located in front of the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains, was created by the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center, formerly known as both the Westchester Holocaust Education Center and the Westchester Holocaust Commission, to honor the memories of the millions of men, women and children who were killed during the Holocaust, and to pay tribute to the brave people of all faiths who risked their lives to save others.

The Westchester Jewish Council normally holds this annual event at the Garden of Remembrance, but in accordance with social distance guidelines, hosted a virtual commemoration instead.
