County Executive George Latimer today announced a series of senior programs taking place throughout Westchester as part of National Nutrition Month. Focused on the theme “Eating Right Bite by Bite,” the program promotes eating a variety of nutritious foods every day, planning and creating healthy meals each week, and the value of consulting a registered dietitian nutritionist. The events are free and organized by the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS).
“Each day we have the power to make healthier food choices,” Latimer said. “Even small changes over time will help improve our health. I encourage seniors to join us, have some fun, and learn more about how to eat better and live better.”
National Nutrition Month is an annual education and information campaign presented by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Its purpose is to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices, and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
Each March, DSPS registered dietitian nutritionists schedule special programs about good nutrition and healthy eating habits at various senior centers across the County. Seniors do not have to live in a community to attend, but reservations are required.
