As Westchester County residents prepare to host festive holiday celebrations at home, the Department of Environmental Facilities is sharing helpful tips on ways to reduce food waste, and make the most of the food you’ve purchased for your party.

Some simple suggestions to keep in mind are as follows:

  • Reduce portion sizes so that all food is eaten rather than wasted.
  • Use all the food you’ve purchased, and think of creative ways to use your left-overs.
  • Focus on lowering your carbon foot print by purchasing food products from local farms and markets that grow food sustainably.

The County visited with Glenn Vogt, Owner of Rivermarket Bar & Kitchen in Tarrytown to get a behind-the-scenes look on how these practices are applied in the restaurant industry.
