October 31, 2019 - Each month, the “Did You Know” video segment of the My Westchester newsletter explores a different topic that is unique, and little known about Westchester County. This month, we visited with master story-teller Jonathan Kruk of Historic Hudson Valley, to get a behind-the-scenes look at the place that inspired Washington Irving to create “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
When Washington Irving was a young man, he escaped New York City by venturing up to Westchester County to conjure up short stories. Irving felt that Sleepy Hollow had tales abounding with haunted bridges, byways and barns. The Legend says that the Ghost of the Headless Horseman rose up, and mounted on a steed scoured the streets of central Westchester searching for his missing head.
