June 28, 2019 - Maple Moor Golf Course reopens on Independence Day, Thursday, July 4 with all new bunkers and sand traps, new cart paths, a new irrigation system, a new drainage system with retention ponds and extensive renovations around the course, Westchester County Executive George Latimer announced today. All 18 holes will be open.

County Executive Latimer said: “I am pleased that our golfers will be able to spend part of Independence Day playing at Maple Moor this year. Drainage issues have plagued us is the past but thanks to this project, players will no doubt appreciate how we are able to capture the water on the course and actually use it to good advantage.”

Westchester County Parks Deputy Commissioner Peter Tartaglia said: “This is a proud moment for our department and one that our golfers have anticipated. Waters that once left us underwater, especially on the 8th and 9th fairways, will now feed the irrigation system. The course looks more beautiful than ever, too.”

The improvements to Maple Moor include:

  • Complete renovation of the 1st, 8th, 9th and 18th fairways, re-contoured to provide better pitch for stormwater runoff;
  • Partial renovations to the 3rd, 5th fairways;
  • New tees on the 9th and 18th  holes and all par 3 holes;
  • New drainage system that includes capturing stormwater in a holding pond for re-use and to decrease the amount of runoff into the Hutchinson River;
  • New irrigation system fed by the holding pond, enabling re-use of stormwater;
  • New cart paths and curbing throughout the course;
  • All new bunkers and sand traps;
  • Beautification including new landscape plantings.

Golf carts will be restricted to cart paths only in most areas until further notice.

Play on July 4 through July 7 will be by walkup only or by telephone directly to the course at (914) 995-9200. The online reservation system, at golf.westchestergov.com, however, opens July 1 for play July 8 and beyond. GolfNow reservations will also be accepted starting July 1.

Construction will continue during the season but will have little to no impact on golfers. The restaurant, halfway house and pro shop are fully operational.

MVM Construction was the contractor for the $5.5 million capital project. Other recent MVM projects in Westchester County Parks include the seawall at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle and the North Boardwalk at Playland Park in Rye.
