June 19, 2019 - Westchester County Executive George Latimer is asking senior citizens across the County to join him for a full day of fun at the annual Seniors Summer Kick-off Pool Party and Barbecue on Tuesday, June 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Saxon Woods Pool in White Plains. Rain date is Wednesday, June 26.
“There is no better way to spend a summer day than by relaxing and enjoying a barbeque at one of the County’s beautiful pools,” Latimer said. “I encourage every Westchester County senior citizen to take advantage of this wonderful day and event.”
Sponsored by Westchester County’s Department of Senior Programs and Services and the County’s Parks and Recreation Department, the pool party is open to all Westchester County residents age 60 and older ONLY. Since the pool will not officially be open to the public yet, seniors will have exclusive use of the pool and facility.
“This event brings seniors together to celebrate summer in a healthy and fun way with swimming, dancing, socializing and enjoying a barbecue lunch with old and new friends alike,” said Mae Carpenter, Commissioner of the Department of Senior Programs and Services.
From 11 a.m. to noon, a barbecued chicken sandwich, tossed salad, potato salad, juice and dessert will be available for a suggested contribution of $4. Live music will be provided by the Total Soul band along with an aqua class provided by Silver Sneakers, and a tai chi class presented by Karen Kim, a certified Tai Chi instructor. In addition, free rounds of shuffleboard will be available.
Participants are welcome to bring any additional non-alcoholic beverages, however outside meals are not allowed at the Pool. Seating at Saxon Woods Pool is limited; participants are encouraged to bring chairs for seating.
Admission and parking for the event are free; Park Passes are not required for this program. Deadline for registration, along with placing lunch orders is Friday, June 21. Lunches must be pre-ordered.
Saxon Woods Pool is located at 1800 Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains.
