August 16, 2018 -- Every ten years, the U.S. Census Bureau undertakes an enormous task – counting every person that lives in the United States. Westchester County Executive George Latimer has signed an Executive Order to create a “Complete Count Committee,” to help develop strategies for an accurate count, and encourage every County resident to participate in the 2020 Census.
Latimer said: “The 2020 Census is much more than just a headcount. It is a snapshot of Westchester County, and the numbers need to be accurate. This data is vital for our budget process because it allows us to have a better understanding of how much funding we are going to receive, and how we can properly allocate it. Any attempt to shift how the Census is counted will result in fewer dollars coming to the County to administer programs. I want to ensure that every person, regardless of citizenship status, be accounted for without fear of retaliation.”
The Committee will consist of 21 members appointed by Latimer and approved by the Westchester County Board of Legislators. The Executive Order takes effect immediately, and will remain in effect until March 31, 2021.
