The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Westchester County, and the Westchester County Department of Emergency Services (DES) is strongly advising all residents to avoid travel and stay off the roadways until conditions improve.

The forecast for this evening includes severe thunderstorms, high winds, and potential for flash flooding. DES is closely monitoring the situation, and is prepared to respond as needed.

The Bronx River Parkway is currently closed between the Westchester County Center and Main Street in White Plains. Significant flooding is also reported on the Sprain Brook Parkway, and several roads are closed in the areas surrounding Westchester Medical Center.

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel
  • Never attempt to drive through flooded streets
  • Avoid flood-prone areas
  • Keep emergency alert notifications turned on at all times
  • In a true emergency, dial 911.

The Flash Flood Warning is in effect until later this evening.
