Westchester County proudly commemorated Haitian Heritage Month with a flag unveiling ceremony at the Michaelian Office Building in White Plains. The event was hosted by County Executive Ken Jenkins and NYS Senator Shelley B. Mayer, and brought together members of the community to recognize the Haitian-American community and its many contributions to Westchester and beyond.

Jenkins said: “In a time where diversity is under attack, Westchester County is proud to continue celebrating it. The Haitian-American community is a vital part of Westchester County’s culture and story. We are proud to honor their history and the determination that has shaped their journey. Haitian Heritage Month provides an important opportunity to recognize their lasting contributions to our community and to celebrate their enduring spirit of resilience.”

Mayer said: I am pleased to join the Haitian community and County Executive Ken Jenkins for a flag raising ceremony in honor of Haitian Heritage Month. This month, we recognize and celebrate the vibrant cultures, history, traditions, and contributions of our Haitian and Haitian-American neighbors.”

Haitian Heritage Month is celebrated each May and expands on the annual observance of Haitian Flag Day on May 18. The Haitian flag, first adopted in 1803, symbolizes the determination and pride of Haiti’s struggle for independence. Westchester County is proud to join in this commemoration, recognizing the enduring contributions of the Haitian community and their role in enriching the County's diversity and culture.
