During the Medicare Open Enrollment period, which is running now through December 7, the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services (DSPS) is encouraging Medicare-eligible individuals to evaluate their existing coverage. Medicare beneficiaries can only make changes and adjustments during the open enrollment period.
DSPS is offering two Medicare 101 Basics presentations to help seniors learn more about how Medicare works, discover the latest changes in the program, review different coverage types and see which plans are best for your current needs. Other topics that will be explored include Medicare Parts A & B, changing needs with Part D (Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage), Medigap insurance vs. Medicare Advantage Plans, cost-sharing and preventative benefits, and how to use Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC).
The presentations will be held as follows:
November 16 and December 4
10 a.m. to Noon
Westchester County Office Building
Eighth Floor Conference Room
9th South First Avenue
Mount Vernon, NY
Medicare eligible individuals can also receive one-on-one counseling and assistance is available by calling the Medicare Information Line at (914) 813-6100.
DSPS Commissioner Mae Carpenter said: “I encourage everyone to explore their insurance options to save as much money as possible during this year’s Medicare open enrollment period. Please don’t delay, call as well as sign up for this important training program.”
