As journalists in the Hudson Valley move to formally unionize, Westchester County Executive George Latimer has joined Rockland County Executive Ed Day in a bi-partisan effort supporting their actions.

Part of the letter from Latimer to Gannett Company CEO Michael Reed states:

“It is a truism that local news is the backbone of our society. Strong and independent news outlets keep our democracy informed, hold the powerful accountable, and give a voice to a number of communities who need their stories to be heard. Our local journalists have gone up against all odds over the past 15 months, putting their lives at risk to keep our residents informed throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In Westchester, our local news provides everything you need to remain an informed member of our County, whether it be on local culture, politics, entertainment, sports, the arts, community events and much more. We are very appreciative of how important your work in this area has been.”
