Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center, an eighteenth century working farm, is in serious need of repairs and now it’s getting them. County Executive George Latimer proposed two Bond Acts to finance the development of a master plan and facility repairs. The Westchester County Board of Legislators approved both Bond Acts.

Westchester County Executive George Latimer said: “We want to maximize Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center as a resource for our residents. We look forward to the start of this project and seeing the farm reach its highest potential.”

The first Bond Act of $200,000 will fund a study to develop a master plan, which will address the long-term needs of the farm including renovations to driveways, parking areas, fencing, building exteriors and public assembly areas. Additionally, the study will assess the needs of the gardens and pastures used for educational demonstrations. The second Bond Act of $675,000 will fund the construction of the recommended improvements.

Latimer and the farm’s revitalized friends group are committed to making improvements so the farm can continue its work as a center for education and environmental stewardship.

Director of Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center Shanyn Siegel said: “At Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center we have taught school children, veterans and backyard farmers about sustainable agriculture, and started programs to further environmentally friendly practices in our community. This project will undoubtedly allow us to enhance our educational efforts.”

President of the Friends of Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center Janet Harckham said: “Our volunteers are dedicated to the mission of Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center and growing a happier and healthier tomorrow. We are proud to partner with the County as the farm moves into an exciting new chapter.”
