July 9, 2019 - Construction and rehabilitation will start this fall at the WestHELP site adjacent to Westchester Community College’s campus. The property, a six-acre parcel of land located off Knollwood Road, was long-stalled after being subject to years of political wrangling and discussions between the County, Town of Greenburgh, Valhalla School District and a neighborhood association. In October 2018, the County approved an agreement with Marathon Development Group to renovate the site into 74 units of affordable senior rental housing, 20 more units than would have been created in a previous proposal. Once the construction is complete, the County will be able to provide more affordable housing opportunities for seniors, housing for which there is a great need in Westchester.

The WestHELP site was developed into a Westchester County homeless shelter in the 1980s, but was closed in 2011 and left vacant.
