Resignation Goes Into Effect Thursday, January 2 at 12:01 p.m.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer has submitted his official resignation from office, after serving seven years as head of Westchester County Government. Latimer, who served as Westchester’s ninth County Executive since January 1, 2018, will be sworn into his seat in U.S. Congress representing New York’s 16th Congressional District on Friday, January 3, 2025.
Latimer said: “Serving as Westchester County Executive has been the greatest honor of my life, and I am deeply appreciative of the kindnesses I have been shown since I first came into office in 2018. Westchester County is a special place, united by common goals of justice, fairness and opportunity for all. We accomplished great things over the past seven years but there is so much more to do, and as I prepare to take the next step in my public service journey, I firmly believe that this County’s best days are still ahead.”
Latimer will deliver his farewell address on Monday, December 30 at 2 p.m. Latimer’s resignation goes into effect Thursday, January 2 at 12:01 p.m.
