County Executive Ken Jenkins Issues Statement on Department of Justice's List of Sanctuary Counties

“Westchester County has never been a sanctuary jurisdiction. We have been clear, consistent and transparent in our approach from the beginning – complying fully with federal and state law while maintaining policies that strengthen public safety, and protect the rights of all of our residents.

“It comes as no surprise that Westchester County is not on the Sanctuary County list issued by the U. S. Department of Justice. Our Immigrant Protection Act was crafted with input from both advocates and law enforcement professionals, to ensure that we both protect our residents and communities, as well as adhere to the law. The Immigration Protection Act was overwhelmingly adopted with bipartisan support on the County Board of Legislators.

“Westchester’s record speaks for itself – we follow the law, we protect our communities, and we will not be distracted by rhetoric that does not reflect our reality.”
