Commissioner
of Public Safety
Westchester
County is seeking a dynamic, innovative, experienced law
enforcement professional for the position of Commissioner of
Public Safety. Under the general direction of the County
Executive the incumbent is responsible for the total management
of The Department of Public Safety. The Department is
accredited by the State of New York, has a budget of
approximately $26 million, consists of a sworn staff of
approximately 250 officers and a civilian staff of 62, serving
to ensure the protection of life and property, prevention of
crime, preservation of public peace and enforcement of all laws
and ordinances within the department’s jurisdictional
boundaries, as well as augmenting forty-three local police
departments by providing specialized services, including, but
not limited to: the Special Response Team, Bomb Squad, Hostage
Negotiation, Crime Analysis, Ballistics, Marine Rescue and
Aviation Units. The successful candidate for this position
should show progressively increasing responsibilities in a
variety of Law Enforcement and Public Safety Disciplines
including Anti-Terrorism, Emergency Management, Weapons of Mass
Destruction, Bio-Terrorism, and Cyber-Terrorism. Additionally,
the candidate must have excellent oral and written communication
skills and the ability to work effectively with federal, state
and local levels of law enforcement. The successful candidate
should also have significant experience in managing a large
police agency including experience in training, labor relations
and interaction with the media. The candidate also functions as
the Sheriff of Westchester County, is a public officer and must
be a U.S. citizen.

Bachelor’s Degree* in Police Science, Management, Business,
Government or Public Administration or a related field and ten
(10) years of experience in law enforcement operations,
administration or planning, three of which must have been in an
administrative and /or supervisory capacity; or (b) Master’s
Degree* in one of the aforementioned fields may be substituted
on a year for year basis for the experienced specified in (a)
above, but the three (3) years in an administrative and /or
supervisory capacity must be included.

Education
beyond the secondary level must be from an institution
recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York
State Education Department as a post-secondary, degree-granting
institution.
Salary Rate: $156,245.00,
