Located in the Department of Laboratories and Research – Valhalla: Under general supervision of a higher level professional, an incumbent of this class conducts examinations related to a public health microbiology laboratory, ensuring that all tests adhere to established protocols for quality control, proficiency and safety.  The incumbent must maintain a satisfactory rating of performance for those procedures from which approval has been granted to the laboratory by the New York State Department of Health.  An incumbent of this class must be available for emergency, weekend and holiday work situations. Supervision may be exercised over technical laboratory staff. Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: A Bachelor's Degree* in Medical Technology or a biological science and one year of clinical microbiology experience in an approved medical, hospital or public health laboratory and either (A) at time of permanent appointment, must possess a license and current registration issued by the New York State Department of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist and maintain same while in the title, or (B) at time of temporary appointment, must possess a provisional permit issued by the New York State Department of Education as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.

Located in the Department of Health – White Plains: Under general supervision of the Director of Research and Evaluation, an incumbent performs statistical work and analyses.  The incumbent assists in setting up data collection systems and/or utilizes existing data collection systems to monitor and track relevant health data, and participates in the evaluation and analysis of such data.  Responsibilities include setting up data entry mechanisms, conducting data collections by various methods, working on data entry, performing statistical analyses, and writing brief statistical reports. Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED:  A Bachelor's Degree* including or supplemented by 12 credits in epidemiology and/or statistics; and two years of experience where a primary function of the position was doing statistical work which must have involved participation in  statistical research  and the use of statistical software applications for data analysis.

 

SUBSTITUTION:  A Master’s degree* in public health, epidemiology, or closely related area, may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
