Located in the Department of Social Services – Various: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class conducts a departmental community relations program with a targeted constituency or client group.  An incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of a program to provide the community, public interest groups and constituents with assistance and advocacy in understanding and accessing various available County services; identifying demonstrated needs for new or improved services; and acting as liaison between departmental staff and the public.  Supervision is not a responsibility of this class.  Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED:  Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and either (a) six years of experience where the primary function of the position was in community or public relations, community education or community services; or (b) six years of experience where the primary function of the position was administrative support which involved responding to inquiries from the public, community groups and advocacy groups; or (c) an equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a) and (b) above.

 

SUBSTITUTIONS: (1) Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* towards a Bachelor’s Degree* may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the above stated experience. Satisfactory completion 30 credits towards a Master’s Degree may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two years of the above stated experience. (2)  Verifiable volunteer experience in community or public relations, community education or community services may be substituted for an equal amount of the above stated required experience. 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possess and maintain a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York. 

 

NOTE:   The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment.  Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek.

 

*SPECIAL NOTE:  Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Education Department as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution.

Located in the Department of Environmental Facilities – Yonkers: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this position performs a wide variety of work related to the operation of the County's sanitary landfill, residue disposal sites, transfer stations, and associated equipment, including advance planning and maintaining necessary supplies and records. Work is performed with considerable independence but usually results from written or oral instructions. The incumbent may work as part of a crew or as a lead worker on specific projects and may supervise a number of lower level maintenance and labor employees. The incumbent is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with the full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques. Work at this grade may be completed with little or no check during progress or on completion. Supervisor may check overall work to see that it meets trade standards. Does related work as required

 

REQUIRED:  A high school or equivalency diploma and four years experience in the operation of a transfer station, sanitary landfill or residue disposal site. 

 

SUBSTITUTION:  College education may be substituted at the rate of 30 credit* hours for one year of experience up to a maximum of two years. 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  (1) Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York will be required at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title.  (2) Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety and maintain same while in the title.

 

NOTES:  (1) The number of years of experience required in the minimum qualifications is based upon the presumption of full-time employment.  Part-time experience will be prorated based on a 35 hour workweek. 

(2) Verified and documented volunteer (unpaid) experience will only be credited when specifically allowed by

the job description or examination announcement.
