Located in the Law Department – White Plains: Under general supervision, incumbents of this class perform executive legal secretarial, clerical and administrative duties for upper level administrators or professional persons, to support the efficient operation of the Law Department or District Attorney's Office.  Work includes the preparation and storing of legal documents and correspondence, requiring knowledge of legal terminology and the operation of computers and word processing software.  Supervision is not a responsibility of this position, but incumbents may act as a lead worker for the completion of assigned projects.  Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED: High school or equivalency diploma and five years of experience where the primary function of the position was clerical and word-processing duties, one year of which must have involved the typing or word-processing of legal correspondence and documents in a public or private legal office.

 

SUBSTITUTION:  Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* at a recognized college or university, or its equivalent in course hours from an approved institution or office software manufacturer (i.e. Microsoft), may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two years of the above general experience.  There is no substitution for the one year of specialized experience.

Located in the County Clerk’s Office – White Plains: Under general supervision, an incumbent of this class works with the County Clerk and/or higher-level managerial personnel with the administrative processes involved in the development, control and management of personnel, contracts, fiscal and budgetary activities for the department.  Responsibilities include departmental budget preparation and control, financial administration, grant funds and contract management, and departmental personnel management. Work is performed in an automated environment. Supervision is exercised over a number of clerical staff.  Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED:  A Bachelor’s degree* and four years of experience where the primary function of the position was in contract management, financial administration, and administrative support services**, two years of which must have been at a supervisory capacity.

 

**DEFINITION: Administrative support experience is defined as providing support or back-up functions to higher level administrators in areas such as: office management; participation in budget preparation and monitoring; payroll and personnel type functions; involvement in the development and/or review or department-wide practices and procedures; evaluating departmental operations; participation in planning; financial recordkeeping, accounting, or management activities; purchasing; public relations, community relations, public information activities; and other similar functions. “Line” functions involved in the delivery of services or in the day-to-day operations of a department would not be qualifying experience.

Located in the Department of Environmental Facilities – Valhalla: Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance and repair of a Type IB (more than 2.5 mgd) and IIB (less than 2.5 mgd) Water Treatment Plant containing facilities for chlorination as well as distribution.  An incumbent plans and gives direct supervision to a wide variety of operation, maintenance and repair staff.  Work is performed with considerable independence in accordance with operating procedures, departmental goals and environmental standards.  An incumbent is fully proficient in the skills and practices of the trade, with full knowledge of the principles, tools and techniques.  The Supervising Plant Operator supervises at least one Water Treatment Plant Operator - IIB and may supervise a number of operators and mechanics.  Does related work as required.

 

REQUIRED:  Possession of a Grade IIB (or higher) Certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator and Grade D certificate issued by the New York State Department of Health under Part 5 of the State Sanitary Code and high school, trade school or equivalency diploma and five years of experience  (pre or post certification) where the primary function of the position was in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant, two years of which must have been in the operation of a Water Treatment Plant.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  (1) Possession of a valid Grade IIB and Grade D certificates in the State of New York will be required at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title. (2) Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York will be required at time of appointment and maintain same while in the title.  (3) Depending on work location, must meet standards of OSHA regulation 1910.134 Respiratory Protection, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety.
