Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins Statement on Kwanzaa

“As we mark the start of Kwanzaa, I want to extend my heartfelt greetings to the many residents and families across Westchester County who observe this important cultural tradition. This celebration is a reminder that our strength does not come from standing alone but from walking forward together, guided by values that are passed down from generation to generation. The seven principles of Kwanzaa are not only celebrated during this week but lived throughout the year by those who work to strengthen their communities, preserve their heritage and lead with purpose.

“Whether you are celebrating Kwanzaa with your family, your congregation, your neighbors, or on your own, I hope this week offers a moment to reconnect with the seven principles of Kwanzaa — Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith). May this Kwanzaa bring light and wisdom into your life, and may it inspire us all to carry forward a legacy of strength and service to others.”
