Youth FOCUS (Family Operated Community United for Success)

Youth FOCUS is designed for homeless young adults aged 16 - 21 who are serious about improving their life skills, are motivated to attend school or other training programs, are interested in living in a family setting, and are committed to finding and maintaining employment. Young adults who want a better future for themselves and are willing to work hard to ensure success will get the most out of FOCUS. Referrals are welcome from all health and human services professionals. However, young people from Westhab's family shelters and housing programs will be given priority to apply and participate.

YPL has an OnLine book club called Chapter-A-Day and soon to be renamed DearReader.com. Located on its website, www.ypl.org , you can read a portion of a chapter from a popular book of your choosing by clicking on the apple icon Monday thru Friday. 

This service is free. Just give us you e-mail address and 5 minutes a day, and we will give you the world of reading. You can choose the type of books you would like to read. "An apple a day is good for your body; a chapter a day is good for your mind."


Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE)

 

The Youth Development Program of Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) delivers a variety of services and programs in support of positive youth development in Westchester County, including trainers to support a wide variety of curriculum-based, hands-on learning materials, kits and programs. Mentor supported 4-H Clubs are established with trained CCE volunteers throughout Westchester County. 

 

The mission of CCE is to build communities through education.  Administrative offices are located in Valhalla, but community educators develop, facilitate, support and deliver programs and training throughout Westchester County. As part of the national Land-Grant Extension System, CCE of Westchester County is supported by the research and curriculum resources of Cornell University.  Curricula and training materials are available through the Youth Development Resource Center.

Village Youth Team 
Ages Served: 13-18
The purpose of the Village Youth Team is to provide peer support and to help other New Rochelle youth access knowledge and services relating to sex, hygiene, substance use, police relations, racism and other issues of concern to youth. Their objectives include:

  • • providing youth with a peer support system and means to discreetly and readily access health and social information

  • • increasing youth knowledge of community-based health and support services

  • • reducing negative youth behavior (premature sex, teen pregnancy, tobacco/illegal substance use)

  • • increasing in youth the developmental assets essential for positive development
