Stress Reduction Tips

We all have those moments when our lives seem out of control. Juggling family responsibilities, work and personal time is stressful and that stress can distort our outlook and crush our spirit.

The remedy: A vacation.

Unfortunately, most of us can't zip off to the Caribbean or Aspen for a break. But here are a few simple things you can do to put things back in perspective. Think of it as a 60-second vacation.

Imagine yourself in a hammock. Pay attention to one part of your body. Notice if it is tight, stiff, cool or warm. Now imagine that it is made of butter and is slowly melting.

Pretend that your life is a movie and that you can replay the best moments. Pick a memory that makes you smile: building a snowman with the kids, reading a book on the beach, listening to a rainstorm in bed.

Write a sentence about what is upsetting you right now. Put the paper away in a special box or drawer, setting it aside for a time. Once you come back to it, it may not seem as important. If it is, you can return to deal with at a time when you feel stronger or more focused.
