The American
College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
has a membership of 40,000 physicians and is the nation's leading group
of professionals providing health care for women. It is a private,
voluntary, non-profit membership organization. ACOG serves as an
advocate for quality health care for women and promotes patient
education and public awareness of the changing issues facing women's
health care. Its website offers educational information on issues of
interest to pregnant women.
The National Maternal and
Child Health Clearinghouse (NMCHC)
is funded by the Health
Resources and Services Administration, Maternal and Child Bureau, a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Its online website produces educational materials on a host of health concerns faced by
pregnant women and mothers including sudden infant death syndrome. Information is available to
public health and emergency medical practitioners and legal
professionals, as well as to parents, families, and the general public.
The American College of
Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) is the
oldest women's health care organization in the U.S. ACNM provides
research, accredits midwifery education programs, administers and
promotes continuing education programs, establishes clinical practice
standards, creates liaisons with state and federal agencies and members
of Congress. In addition to educational materials on pregnancy, its
website provides a complete listing of nurse midwives as well as
information for professionals in the field.
Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, Inc. Planned Parenthood website provides resources in contraception, family planning and birth control, as well as support and advocacy information. For
