They recognize dying as part of the normal process of living and focus on maintaining the quality of life despite a terminal illness. They offer care aimed at helping the patient live as fully and comfortably as possible using pain control and other palliation techniques. They offer support group workshops to care for families and caregivers.

The Compassionate Friends is a national nonprofit, self-help support organization which offers friendship and understanding to families who are grieving the death of a child of any age, from any cause. There is no religious affiliation. There are no membership fees or dues, and all bereaved family members are welcome.

RAINBOWS is a not-for-profit, international organization that offers training and curricula for establishing peer support groups in churches, synagogues, schools or social agencies. These curricula are available for children and adults of all ages and religious denominations who are grieving a death, divorce or any other painful transition in their family.

TAPS is a national non-profit organization made up of, and providing services to, all those who have lost a loved one while serving in the armed forces. It offers a national military survivor peer support network as well as grief counseling referral, caseworker assistance and crisis information, all available to help families and military personnel cope and recover.
