Overview

Westchester Telecom refers to a 400-mile fiber optic network that now weaves its way through every area of civic or business activity in Westchester from the Bronx line to Putnam County. This telecommunications network has brought a wealth of technological capabilities and continues to spur economic growth.

The network offers high-speed Internet access and upgraded voice, video and data services to the public sector, businesses and residents. Dozens of county buildings in addition to numerous municipalities, school districts, hospitals, libraries, fire and police departments and businesses have already tapped in.

Thanks to the Westchester Telecom network, businesses and residents can enjoy the cost and service benefits of a competitive telecom environment and easily tap into the quality fiber-based network built specifically for Westchester County from the first to the last mile.  Go here if you are interested in tapping into the network.

The county had several goals in mind when developing the Telecom project:

To develop an "information super highway" that would travel throughout Westchester County to provide very high-speed data, video and voice services to the County government and others.
To create a competitive communications infrastructure to provide the foundation for economic growth, just as the Erie Canal, 18th century post roads and railroads did years ago.
To attract other public sector agencies to pool expenditures and act as anchor tenants, which could help diminish costs for data and voice services.
To offer dependable and reliable service on a fully redundant telecommunications infrastructure utilizing the latest technology.
