Research by Mail

 

Although researchers are urged to visit the Archives' Reading Room in person, those who choose to conduct research by mail should read the following instructions carefully.

Please note that birth, marriage and death records, other than those noted below, are not available at the Westchester County Archives.  These records are kept at the local level of government, i.e., by the City or Town Clerk.  Click here to read more about obtaining vital records for Westchester County

Divorce records are maintained by the Westchester County Clerk's Office, Martin Luther King Blvd, White Plains, NY 10601. (See the Frequently Asked Questions section of the Clerk's website for information about ordering copies of divorce records).

      

Search requests for materials held by the Westchester County Archives should be submitted by mail to the following address:

Payment must be received before we start work on your research request.  Please print out the applicable search request form below and send it with your payment. General inquires regarding our collections can be sent to the Archives Reference Desk
          
Individual Record Search
Cost: $15.00 per record

If you have searched our online indexes and have found a specific record that you would like to obtain a copy of, the Archives staff will retrieve the record and copy it for you.

Custom Research
Cost: $25.00 per hour
(copies over the first 10 will be billed separately at $0.50/page)

The Archives staff will conduct customized research on an hourly basis on any records in the Archives' holdings. For information on our records, see the Guide to the Collections.  Customize research can also include genealogical research in the naturalization, marriage, court, and incorporation records not covered by our online indexes as well as research in the following indexes and their underlying records:

  • Deeds, Grantor and Grantee, 1680-1907
  • Mortgagor Index, 1680-1897
  • Estate Records, 1782-1909
  • Wills, 1782-1941
