Derby Racer, 1927. This ride, in which the horses can race as fast as 25 miles per hour, is one of only two remaining in the country. Fred A. Church of Venice, California was awarded the contract to build the Derby Racer at a cost of $27,500.00. The contract included a license for the life of the patent and an agreement not to sell or build a similar ride within 5 miles of the park. The horses were carved by Marcus Charles Illions. |
