Michaelian Collection: County Executive Records. 1958-1973.

Personal correspondence, memos, clippings, calendars and reports created during Mr. Michaelian's tenure as County Executive. Included are his annual messages, speeches and material related to various issues dealt with by his administration.

Correspondence, memos, reports, clippings and other materials. Includes Mr. Michaelian's unfinished history of Westchester County, a history of Westchester County Courthouses, and files on the Institute for Sub/Urban Governance, founded by Mr. Michaelian at Pace University.

Original declarations filed by immigrants who wished to be naturalized. Entries including the following information about the immigrant: name; age; occupation; color; complexion; height; weight; color of hair and eyes; any distinctive marks or scars; birthplace and date; address at the time of filing; when, how and where emigrated to the U.S.; and the date of filing.

Deeds Index, Grantor. 1680-1907.
50 v. Alphabetical. Index to Series 47.
Index to deeds arranged by grantor (seller) for the period 1680-1897; and by town, then grantor for the period 1897-1907.  Each entry lists the buyer and seller of the property; year, month and day recorded by the County Clerk; and gives the deed volume reference by liber and page.

Commissioners of Forfeiture Proceedings. 1784-1786.
1 v. Chronological. Index in the volume.
Records of the Commission which sold lands which had been confiscated from Loyalists after the American Revolution. Entries include the name of the buyer, the amount paid, and a brief property description. The volume includes a description of the capture of Major Andre and the land presented to one of his captors as a reward.  A few of the pages from the Commissioners of Forfeiture Proceedings are available online at our Historical Treasures website.  An alphabetical index of purchasers of the land is also available online.

Record of properties exempt, by New York State law (enacted 1850), from sale under execution for debts. Property descriptions may include names of adjoining property owners and may note deed filed when land was acquired, and refer to maps on which the property is shown.

Registrations filed with the County Clerk. Each entry includes date of registration, name of dentist, age, birthplace, office and home addresses, date and number of license, and issuer of the license.

Court of Sessions Minutes. 1684-1895.
10 v. Chronological.
Records of the Court which heard criminal cases between 1664 and 1895. Cases heard by the court include assault, murder, rape, fraud, treason, illegal voting, gambling and matters involving the Overseers of the Poor (public charges, manumission and bastardy). Included are lists of jurors, jury foremen and Justices of the Peace. These records do not usually include testimony.

Westchester County Tricentennial Committee Records. 1980-1983.

Memos, correspondence, clippings, booklets, reports, minutes, resolutions and other records of the Committee which was appointed by the County Executive in 1980 to plan the celebration of Westchester's Tricentennial in 1983.

Incorporation Records. 1876-1926.
58 v. Chronological. Index in each volume.
Statements of incorporation for businesses, fraternal organizations, societies some churches and cemeteries. Entries include the names of founding officers, a statement of purpose, and an accounting of assets.  A index of some of the records in this series is available online, as well as an index of some of the personal names included in the records.

Summary of records filed with the County Clerk of persons wishing to conduct business under an assumed name. Entries include the date of filing, names and addresses of persons filing certificate, name under which the business is to be conducted, nature of business, location, and date of filing.

Bicentennial Commission of Westchester County Records. 1974-1981.
Less than 1 cubic ft. Alphabetical.
Reports, minutes, resolutions, booklets, correspondence and memos of the Commission appointed by the County Executive in 1970 to plan Westchester County's celebration of the United States Bicentennial. The Commission was formally recognized by the Board of Legislators in 1974 and continued after the Bicentennial to form the basis of the Westchester County Tricentennial Committee.
