Pesticides and
Protecting Our Water
Fertilizers and pesticides may help your lawn and garden grow, but used
improperly they can end up in our wells,
reservoirs or the water where we swim or fish.
What you can do.
- Try organic fertilizers
- Use compost in your soil
- Use ladybugs and spiders or
bug repellent plants such as marigolds to rid your flowers of pests.
- Insecticidal soap, baking soda or water AND a touch of dishwashing liquid
fight black spot and aphids.
Call the Westchester County Department of Health at 813-5000 for information.
