The
Westchester County Veterans Service Agency works to ensure that veterans and
their dependents receive the maximum benefits from the Veterans Administration
and other agencies at all levels of government.

History
The
Westchester County Veterans Service Agency was formed in 1945 to assist World
War II servicemen and women returning from military to civilian life. Westchester
County has the fifth largest veterans population in the state. There are approximately
100,000 veterans representing all periods of conflict, including the Persian
Gulf War.
As an advocate for the Veterans and their families, Westchester County counselors work closely with the United States
Department of Veterans Affairs and other federal, state, local and private
support agencies.

Introduction
Veterans
benefits
applies to programs of benefits and
services administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA),
in accordance with criteria authorized by Congress and set forth in Title 38,
United States Code, "Veterans Benefits" (38 USC).
Specific entitlement and eligibility requirements are set forth in Title
38, Code of Federal Regulations, "Pensions,
Bonuses, and Veterans Relief."
Monetary
benefits
to veterans and their dependents are tax-exempt and may be classified into three
general categories: Compensation, Dependency and Indemnity
Compensation and Pension.
A
Veteran
is a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service
of the Armed Force of the United States, and who was released or discharged
under conditions other than dishonorable.

The
purpose of the Westchester County Veterans Museum is to tell the
story of the hardships and self-sacrifice of Westchester
residents who answered their country's call to duty in time of
need, from the Revolutionary War to the present.
The
Westchester County Veterans Museum is a joint effort of the
Vietnam Veterans of America Westchester County Chapter 49, the
Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and
Conservation and the county's Veterans Service Agency.
The
museum is accessible to the disabled. Parking is
free. There is no admission charge for the museum but
donations for its maintenance will be gratefully accepted.
Children under age seven must be accompanied by an adult.
