Treasure Hunt

One person's trash is another's treasure. This is where treasures in used but usable condition -- such as household or office items, like furniture, appliances or equipment -- can be found or given away.

Items must be exchanged free of charge - no fees can be charged by either party. The recipient is responsible for picking up the item. Please be courteous and keep scheduled appointments. Be sure to exchange phone numbers and call if you need to cancel an appointment or if you change your mind about an item.

If you have a treasure to give away:

Items will be listed for one week. If you wish to have your item removed prior to the one-week limit, contact Westchester County DEF by e-mail at wcdef@westchestergov.com.

All item(s) are subject to approval by the Dept. of Environmental Facilities and will be listed on the searchable database, usually the next business day. Treasure Hunt may not be used to find a home for a pet. If you have any questions or need additional information, contact us.

You can also donate items to local charities or participate in online groups that serve as a forum to exchange items, such as WestchesterFreeshare and WestchesterNYFreecycle. You must have a Yahoo! account to use these programs. WestchesterNYFreecycle maintains a “two strikes, you’re out” policy to guarantee proper participation.
