The Westchester County Veterans Service Agency was formed to assist our brave servicemen and women in their transition from the military back into civilian life. Westchester County has the fifth largest veterans population in the state. There are approximately 100,000 veterans representing all periods of conflict, up to and including the current conflict in the Middle East.

Veterans benefits apply to programs of benefits and services that are administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), in accordance with criteria authorized by Congress and set forth in Title 38, United States Code, Veterans Benefits (38 USC). Specific entitlement and eligibility requirements are set forth in Title 38, Code of Federal Regulations, Pensions, Bonuses, and Veterans Relief.

In this section, you will find out detailed information about specific Veteran benefits, and what you need to do to apply for them. As an advocate for veterans and their families, Westchester County counselors work closely with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and other federal, state, local, and private agencies to provide optimal service at the local level.

The Veterans Service Agency can assist veterans in filing for their discharge records (DD214) , and placing them on file in the Westchester County Clerk’s office for safe keeping.

Eligibility for most federal, state and local benefits is based upon honorable discharge from active military service. However, some military personnel may be eligible for certain veterans benefits

Disability Compensation is a monetary benefit paid to veterans who are disabled by injury or disease incurred or aggravated during active military service.  Find out more about this type of compensation.

In an effort to Support Our Troops the Westchester County Veterans Service Agency is sending care packages to Westchester County residents who are currently on active duty overseas. The following letters are from soldiers currently in Iraq.
