Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Recycling isn’t just an option, it’s the law. Westchester County recycled more than 800,000 tons, or 41% of the solid waste generated in the county last year — but we can do more. Recycling is a partnership between the county (through the Department of Environmental Facilities), its local governments — and you.

Find information on what more you can do. Recycling is good for the environment and saves taxpayers money. Of even greater importance, we must reduce our waste and reuse many those items we no longer need. Westchester has programs dealing with paper and glass, cell phones, garden waste, hangers, mercury, electronics, household chemicals, tires and more. Mobile Shredder

To help prevent identity theft, Westchester purchased a large mobile shredder truck that will travel around the county. Get rid of your old papers during Household Chemical Clean Up Day, or find out when the mobile shredder truck will be at a location near you.

Cell Phone Recycling: It’s the Law

Westchester law mandates that you recycle your old cell phone. The list of places you can bring the phone are ever-increasing to make it easier. These places will also make sure to remove your personal information from your old phone.
