Home Contractors
Westchester law requires that home improvement contractors have a county license. A list of licensed contractors is maintained by the Department of Consumer Protection. The department also has a list of renegade renovators you should avoid. Other licensing laws relate to plumbers and electricians. Homeowners can also get information on laws and regulations regarding pesticide usage and safety precautions when maintaining a septic tank.

Many government forms may be downloaded, including those dealing with the licensing of electricians and plumbers. Also available are forms from the County Clerk’s office, dealing with land records. Many forms are in PDF format and require Acrobat Reader.
 
Our list of those unlicensed contractors you should avoid using. These contractors have been the source of many consumer complaints. The Department of Consumer Protection is continuing to pursue these contractors.
