Related Departments
While the county Department of Consumer Protection is a main source of consumer information, many other departments have useful consumer nformation as well. The Department of Environmental Facilities handles many environmental matter, including recycling. The Department of Health keeps current on many health issues. The Department of Senior Programs and Services is watching out for the needs of the elderly. When changes are needed in a county law (for example the consumer code), it is up to the Board of Legislators to consider these changes.  
The Department of Consumer Protection works to protect consumers. It does this in many ways, including enforcement of the county’s Consumer Code, investigation of complaints, and through education.

The department protects, preserves, and conserves Westchester’s water resources and operates various sewer plants. The department also oversees all the county government’s recycling programs and serves as a resource to recycling programs run by local governments.
 
The Department of Senior Programs and Services is dedicated to identifying and prioritizing the needs of the elderly in Westchester.
The 17-member Westchester County Board of Legislators is the legislative, policy-making branch of county government. Each legislator represents a district of approximately 50,000 residents. Members are elected every two years.
