Tours of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) are free of charge and given on an appointment basis. The tour educates participants about the recycling process in Westchester. Groups are taken to an observation tower and are shown machinery that separate, sort, and prepare materials to be sold to vendors.
Teachers are encouraged to make use of this facility for class trips for elementary, middle school and high-school history students.

The county purchased Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center in 2003 to preserve open space, protect drinking water and promote environmental education. The farm consists of 187 acres of forest, pastures and historic buildings. This is an ideal field trip for students of all ages when discussing environmental issues.
