County Marine Patrol to Combat DWI on the Waterways

Those who drive a boat while intoxicated, beware.

In time for Memorial Day Weekend, County Executive Andy Spano l launched  the county’s Marine Unit to patrol the waters.

The Marine Unit of the Department of Public Safety will patrol the Hudson River and the Long Island Sound along the county coastline to enforce state Maritime Laws, particularly laws against skippering a board while intoxicated or impaired. Attention will also be directed at enforcing laws against underage drinking.

The craft will patrol holiday weekends,  in addition to other non holiday weekends during the summer. Patrols are made possible through funds from the County Executive’s Office of Drug Prevention and STOP-DWI.
